A few questions business owners often ask
Fit, Size & Access
-
Absolutely. We work with sole traders, start-ups and smaller businesses. Many businesses require straightforward bookkeeping and tax support before introducing additional services as they develop.
-
Yes. We handle standard Self-Assessment tax returns and can support your transition to an MTD-ready setup, keeping everything simple, compliant and easy to manage.
While the new rules can feel like an extra burden, they can also bring better visibility, improved accuracy and time savings once systems are in place.
This helps with day-to-day decision-making and planning—turning a regulatory requirement into something genuinely useful.
-
Absolutely. We work with clients across the UK, including Poole and the wider Dorset area, using cloud-based accounting systems. You’ll receive the same level of support and expertise wherever you are.
The only difference is that an occasional in-person catch-up is less practical, but otherwise everything works in the same way.
-
We're probably not the right fit if you're looking for a purely transactional service focused on filing returns at the lowest possible cost, or if you prefer traditional manual and paper-based processes.
We work best with business owners who want clearer information and guidance, efficient systems and ongoing support to help build a stronger and more future-ready business.
-
We tailor communication to your needs and level of support. Most clients have regular scheduled check-ins, alongside access for questions as needed.
-
We work with a wide range of owner-managed businesses, from sole traders and start-ups through to established limited companies. What they tend to have in common is a desire for organised finances, more time for their business and guidance they can rely on.
-
We aim to accommodate specific client requirements where possible, and some out-of-hours availability can be agreed in advance as part of your service.
Our standard hours are 9am–6pm, Monday to Friday.
-
You’ll work directly with me throughout, so you always have a consistent point of contact who understands your business.
Software, Onboarding & Systems
-
Not necessarily. We work with Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and FreeAgent, and can support you in improving your current setup or moving to a more suitable system if needed.
For larger or more complex setups, we’re happy to work alongside your existing systems for higher-level or advisory support.
We can also provide additional support where your internal finance team is stretched.
-
It's usually much easier than people expect. We handle the handover with your existing accountant and manage the transfer of information behind the scenes, keeping disruption to a minimum.
Your main role is simply helping us understand your business so we can start supporting you effectively.
-
Your data is protected through secure, cloud-based platforms with strong encryption, such as Xero and QuickBooks.
With a background in risk and compliance, we apply strict data protection standards and adhere to ICAEW and ICO requirements.
-
Yes. We operate as a fully cloud-based practice, using modern software that gives you real-time access to your financial information and a more efficient way of working.
Services, Pricing & Advisory Support
-
Not at all. Many clients begin with bookkeeping, accounts or tax support and add further services over time as their business grows.
-
Certainly. We work alongside business owners, bookkeepers and internal finance teams. Support can range from compliance oversight and process improvements through to management reporting and strategic advice, depending on your needs.
-
A traditional accountant typically focuses on compliance, reporting and making sure legal obligations are met.
A Fractional FD helps you look ahead, supporting decisions around growth, cash flow, profitability, risk and planning.
Many businesses benefit from both.
-
Yes. We can provide strategic support alongside your existing accountant or bookkeeper, provided your financial data is accurate and up to date.
Reliable, timely data is essential for making good decisions.
-
We offer fixed fees based on the level of support you need, with everything clearly scoped upfront.
Ongoing support typically ranges from £250 to £750+ per month, depending on the size and complexity of the business and the level of support required.
One-off services, such as Self-Assessment tax returns, can also be quoted separately.
We'll talk everything through before any work begins, ensuring the scope and pricing are clear from the outset, with no hidden costs or surprise bills.
-
A full-time Finance Director is a significant expense for most growing businesses.
A fractional approach gives you the same level of strategic insight and support for a fraction of the cost, providing experienced guidance when you need it—without the full-time overhead.
-
We’ll talk through your business and recommend the right level of support. Services can be added or removed over time as requirements change.
We typically start with an initial six-month period to ensure a smooth setup, followed by a rolling monthly arrangement.
-
Timings vary depending on your current setup, goals and the level of support required, although most clients should start to see value within a few weeks.
We focus on delivering practical improvements early on, while building the systems and insight that create long-term value.
